Photographic Collaborationsview more Photographic Collaborations>>> I have done Photographic collaborations for years. Of course I need images of my work for everything from brochures to the internet. During the last 34 years I have worked with a group of extraordinary photographic artists. Tommy Olof Elder has been interpreting my work the longest, probably 25 years. A native of Sweden, Tommy now lives in Paris and Washington DC. He usually arrives at my studio and stays for several weeks at a time. When he's here he manages to work around the clock. I never quite get used to the idea of a 70+ year old with the energy, enthusiasm and wacky outlook of a teenager. He takes images of my glass, often making a piece look more beautiful than it appears to me in real life.
Most recently I have been working intensively with my friend Michael Rossi. Mike has developed specialized equipment to take photos of minute portions of the inside of my Planets. It's like he has landed on the surface of an alien world and is able to take us right inside. Mike's enlarged photos of an infinitesimal part of a Planet can take your breath away! We have done a very limited signed and numbered series of Planet/Photo Collaborations that will be offered here at Megaplanet.com as well as Josh's gallery, Salmon Falls Artisans Showroom. I can't leave out members and previous members of the Glass Studio Team that have added so many photos over the years. In 2001 we hired Greg Bardwell (freshman in high school) to help maintain the studio gardens and it expanded into every day after school taking photos for the web site. Ben Interlande is currently the studio photographer when he is not mowing lawns, weeding studio flower beds or packing glass. Lewis Legbreaker, Deb Levin, Scott Lesure, Emelia Fleck, Tony Interlande and Wendy Miner have all spent enough time at the studio to take great photos of me working in the hot shop. I like sharing the images - they often tell more of the story than I ever could with words. |
